Twitter provides yet another place for information sharing - some which is interesting, current and interactive; some which is simply 'too much information'. I liked Central's use of the tool, a quick way to keep everyone informed of general information.

Library thing

This is the answer to my problem of forgetting what I have read. Library thing also appears to have some handy groups for problem solving. I can see using this tool.

Flicker and You tube

Hello,
It was interesting to have a look at Flicker, I can see how this site might be a good organization tool for amateur photographers. As well, how you might use this as a photo sharing tool.
I enjoy You Tube mostly for it's entertainment value. Though I can see its potential for training, information and how to videos. It is one of those mega sites that make the world a smaller place, by which I mean, it is accessed by millions of people each day and a popular video becomes news fast.

Google docs

Hello,
This week I had a look with all of you at the vast array of Google products. As always I am amazed by the innovation. I had been hearing a lot about Google docs, so I spent a few minutes there checking the product out. This product allows multiple users to work on the same document at the same time - the answer to group work at university. I can't think of a reason not to like it unless the project in question was top secret.

Why do you think social networking sites are so popular? What are the main appeal factors?

I think that social networking sites have increased in popularity with the amount of time we all spend on our computers. They provide a vehicle for quick dissemination of information, a way for like minded groups to assemble on-line and a way to stay in-touch with friends and associates. The main appeal is easy of use.

Wikipedia

I played with Wikipedia today and was impressed by the depth of information available. I did find a subject not, as yet, covered. Wikipedia has not been the preferred publication site for scientists working on microbial genetics, as a result that Linkage Map for Salmonella typhimurium cannot be found (I know that you are all surprised by this).
I did find out a lot about James Taylor. More than James Taylor would like me to know. Decided not to edit his entry.
